Welcome to the National Museum of Oil Appreciation. Please stand at a comfortable viewing distance from the work.
If you look closely at this piece, you'll notice the artist's bold use of the word "fucking", placed centrally to maximise emotional impact. The word does not modify "oil" so much as it elevates it. We are not merely told that the artist loves oil. We are told that the artist fucking loves oil. The distinction is, scholars agree, significant.
Note also the full stop at the end of the sentence. This is not a question. This is not up for debate. It is a statement of fact, delivered with the quiet confidence of a man who knows exactly where he stands on oil.
The brevity of the work — just five words — has drawn comparisons to Hemingway's famous six-word story. Many critics consider this the superior work, as it is one word shorter and also about oil.
